Fresh Expressions - Saint Columba URC Liverpool saint columba urc liverpool urc logo

Fresh Expressions is a way of inviting people into the church to find fellowship, friendship or a sympathetic ear to listen when needed and with an introduction to the word of God in a different way than 'normal'  Sunday morning church and usually in a more informal way.

Fresh Expressions recognises that it is not always convenient to be able to worship on only a Sunday morning in this modern age due to the commitment of work, access to children and finally some people just don't feel comfortable worshipping in the conventional Sunday morning atmosphere.

How do we involve Fresh Expressions into the life of Saint Columba URC?

Saint Columba has a few activities and groups that could be considered a 'Fresh Expression'.

Our main outreach for Fresh Expression is to open the church on a Wednesday morning between 10am and 12 noon during Coffee Pot. Alan (our minister) is available most weeks if you would like to chat to him or if you would prefer to just sit in the peaceful and atmospheric surroundings of Saint Columba and reflect or pray you are very welcome to join us. At different times we have a short reflection or the worship space is available for prayer. If you would like Alan or an Elder of the church to pray with you or just chat then we would be delighted to help.

Also we have the Tuesday Friendship Group that embraces a short religious part of the meeting at the conclusion of the group. Again anybody is welcomed to join us from the 7th September (see timetable by clicking here)

Our final example for 'Fresh Expressions' is the really exciting one for Saint Columba, for such a long time we have prayed for more children to be involved with the church and thanks to our new Pilots group we have been truly blessed (see Pilots page for the full story). While the children are enjoying themselves in the hall with Pilots we encourage the parents to stay and meet a few people from the church in an informal and relaxed setting. Alan always pops in to have a chat with the parents and its a real joy to hear not only the childrens laughter and excitement filling the hall but the real buzz from the parents in the entrance lounge also.

These are just a few examples of how Saint Columba URC Liverpool are embracing Fresh Expressions, why not join us today for a sample of a  'Fresh Expression' of the modern church. It may surprise you!!
